Thrilling North American clash in Kungsbacka

Newly found American and Canadian friends became rivals as a close game unfolded in Kungsbacka Thursday Afternoon.

On Thursday afternoon, a close and thrilling battle unfolded between American team Minnesota Thunder Academy and Canadian team Premier Soccer Academy in the G17 category.

During their journey to Gothenburg, the teams shared a bus and listened to music together, as Natalia Matthews from the American team reveals.
– The fact that we know each other a bit and also are from neighboring countries adds to the tension and rivalry. It all makes the excitement more intensified. However, I am sure we will still be friends afterward, she says.

With the score tied at 2-2 after full time, a penalty shootout was needed to determine the winner. In the end, it was the Canadian team that came out on top.
– It was an intense and very close match. You could really feel the nerves. Despite that, we played well and fought hard. Our plan now is to go all the way to the final and win, says Chloe Vath from the Canadian team.

Despite the defeat in Kungsbacka, the American players share that they have had a great time throughout the tournament.
– It's very well organized, and there are so many good teams. We are staying at a school in the middle of Gothenburg and spending time together 24/7. It's fantastic, says Matthews.

The Canadian players also have made their stay in Gothenburg truly special.
– My top two memories so far, off the field, are the opening ceremony, which was absolutely incredible, and Liseberg, which we visited yesterday and had a blast, says Vath.
