Lonestars SC won the final against Hammarby IF
Lonestars SC-Hammarby IF G11 (2-0)
The American team SC Lonestars secured victory in the G11 class after a tough match against Hammarby IF.
The teams that faced each other in the group stage of this year's tournament knew what to expect. Two incredibly skilled teams that, in the beginning of the match, were testing each other's strengths. The feeling was that the game could go either way.
A bit into the second half, the Americans scored the first goal, capitalizing on a tangled situation resulting in an indirect free-kick. Kinley Minyard took the free-kick and, after a slight touch, netted the leading goal.
It is fantastic to experience the whole tournament with this team; we are such good friends, and I love all the girls here, said one of the players, Kinley Minyard.
After the 1-0 goal, it became a stalemate, with Hammarby fighting to equalize. However, they could not make it all the way, and instead, Lonestars extended their lead to 2-0, once again thanks to Minyard.
-I am so proud of myself, proud of what we have achieved, said Kinley.
The standout player of the match was Kinley Minyard, who, with her two goals, has now written her name in Gothia Cup history.
