Lion City Sailors from Singapore: “An excellent opportunity”

Lion City Sailors Football Academy is located in Singapore. This summer, they will come to Gothia Cup and Gothenburg with three teams.

Three of their teams will be participating in the B11 category. And they can't wait to come to Gothenburg.

Lion City Sailors was founded with the vision of reigniting Singapore football through instilling the spirit of professionalism and excellence alongside nurturing young footballers.
– Our club is dedicated to youth development, and we strive to instill discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship in our players, even as we aim for excellence on the pitch. Fans are at the heart of our club that aims to embed ourselves in the local community and our country. Simply put: while inspiring the local football fraternity and our youth to aim for the stars, the Sailors also aim to provide a supportive platform from which to shoot for those targets, says the general manager Tan Li Yu.

He explains why they choose to participate in Gothia Cup.
– Gothia Cup is known across the globe for its professional organization and for attracting a high standard of competition. It’s an excellent opportunity for our young players to gain valuable experience and exposure on an international stage. We’ve been consistently participating in Gothia Cup for the past times, says Tan Li Yu.
He has only good things to say about the tournament. They think that the atmosphere is fantastic and that the football is of high quality.
– The tournament provides a platform for Sailors’ youth to test themselves while also having the opportunity to meet and learn from other players from different cultures.

How is it to travel from Singapore to the biggest youth football tournament in the world?
– As a Singapore club, we’re thrilled to be able to represent our country in Sweden and compete in what has come to be known as the biggest youth football tournament in the world. Our players are incredibly excited about the opportunity to play against top teams from different parts of the world and to experience the cultural exchange that comes with travelling and competing abroad, says Tan Li Yu.
He adds:
– We’re looking forward to the teams having the opportunity to test themselves and execute what they have learnt on the training ground, and perhaps more importantly, we hope to see the players take on board lessons from this tournament and improving with each match they play.
