Gothia cup are streaming live with artificial intelligence
This year Gothia Cup are going to broadcast over 1300 games. Together with the Norwegian company Joymo, we have taken help of new AI technology. – This year are we taking the next step of live streaming, says Niclas Freiholtz, competition general of Gothia Cup.
Since 2017, the Gothia Cup has broadcast a huge selection of their games online for free. It has attracted millions of viewers worldwide. This year, we are taking the next step in broadcast with help by the Norwegian company Joymo to send the games with AI technology.
─ This is rather new. We are pioneers in working with this in this scale. It is a very large project and above all an investment for the future. We will be able to learn a lot for having a technology that will last many years ahead and in the long term be able to increase the number of games we send, says Niclas Freiholtz.
In total, it will be possible to see over 1300 live matches from 30 different pitches via the Gothia Cup website, or in the app. If you cannot see the game live, you can buy it afterwards for SEK 49. Then you can see it up to a week afterwards.
─ Thanks to our main partner SKF you can see all the games live. It is an economic model we have been working on to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to take part of the Gothia Cup. With so many international guests we have, not all parents, grandparents or friends can be present, so we want to create this opportunity, says Niclas Freiholtz.
You also do not have to use the AI technology if you don’t want to. If you want to there are four cameras covering the whole pitch, so you can decide by yourself how you would like to watch the game.
─ You do not have to use the artificial intelligence, you can choose to see the whole field if you want. You can also choose to be your own camera person. It works best on a tablet or on the phone, where you have a touch screen, says Niclas Freiholtz and continues:
─ If, for example, you would like to follow your defence from a coaching perspective, you can choose it. So it can also works as an analysis tool. It’s also an idea we had.
Games from both 7-, 9- and 11-man plans will be shown and no special teams or age classes are prioritized.
─ The fields we have chosen are chosen according to our conditions. Where we have access to good internet, electricity and the possibility to mount cameras. Who then plays is completely random after the game schedule.
