Gothia Cup begins collaboration with Greentime
Gothia Cup collaborates with Greentime, which offers a comprehensive solution for the cup's sustainability work.
Gothia Cup is the world's largest youth tournament in football. We're an open and inclusive tournament that creates meetings between people. We make it possible for people with different backgrounds and conditions to come together and learn from each other both in sports and in culture and ways of being. We have now decided to be even clearer in our work with sustainability. Therefore, Gothia Cup has started a collaboration with the company Greentime, which works to get events sustainability certified.
Through Greentime's clear and effective planning tools, we should be able to work more strategically. The tool provides a good overview of the entire arrangement, from planning to execution with regard to our environment. By working in a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable way, the Gothia Cup will become a model for other events and increase the knowledge and commitment of both participants and visitors. With the help of Greentime, we have developed a sustainability policy for the tournament that will guide our work within the framework of what we have control over and what we have the opportunity to influence.
With the help of the tool, the events should be able to get a clearer picture of the current situation and then be able to target and prioritize areas that provide a sustainable effect, such as reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The hope is to get a good picture during the first year and then be able to reduce the emissions per participant annually. We also want to increase knowledge about and understanding between young people from all over the world.
The goal is to ensure that Gothia Cup has a long-term and sustainable development and must make sure to create the conditions for a better tomorrow for the individual, the tournament and the planet. It is for the next generation that we develop and we want to use our event to influence others. With that, of course, comes a responsibility which means that we have to minimize our impact on the environment while at the same time putting the young people's meeting place at the center.
Gothia Cup's event manager Anders Albertsson is pleased with the collaboration with Greentime.
– In order to be credible and long-term in our sustainability work linked to our cups, a good tool is needed for this. We can state that Greentime is the best and most user-friendly system for our needs, says Anders Albertsson.
